As I looked upon this Spring sky in the early evening, I realized that the occurrence of Spring is the earth making amends for the harshness of Winter.
All the frozen, unforgiving drifts of snow. All that biting wind that pulled and pulled at us, tearing our limbs about at its will. All the times a brittle cold ate through our layers of woolen defenses.
This new time of sweetly-scented air and pastel-colored scenery is repayment for the suffering of those colder days. I see both Spring and Autumn as forgiving seasons, apologizing for the extremities of the preceding season. Walking home last evening, I felt this overwhelming sense of natural contrition.
So on this lovely Spring morning, I am fully embracing the new season with open arms!

ReplyDeleteAh, this reminds me of the myth of spring. Persephone being taken into the underworld as a bride (winter) and when she's allowed to come back up and visit with her mother (spring!). Love it :)

ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for spring to make up for winter here... we've had a few tantalizing hints, but then it keeps getting chilly and drizzly again. I have to remind myself that all the moisture will make for a gorgeous summer!
