Every year several of my old college roommates gather together for a Thanksgiving meal a few weeks before the real holiday. We started this tradition during our senior year, cooking a full Thanksgiving feast and inviting a few friends and boyfriends to share in the wealth of food we were so fortunate to prepare and enjoy. My friend Katie had her two young cousins staying with us that weekend and the four of us girls had the task to prepare The Bird. I recall standing before the naked, uncooked beast in the early hours of the morning with Katie and the girls, our glasses still on and disheveled bed looks about us. Eventually I had my dad (he is such a gourmet) walk me through the step-by-step process of dressing this creature (a very emotional process because I kept thinking about how it used to be alive). When it came time to sew the legs together, it turned out we were twine-less. Then, lo, Katie comes to the rescue with some floss (a few claimed the drumsticks had a very minty aura to them). The meal eventually came together as did many good friends! We continue to reunite each year (with a few missing faces, sadly) to celebrate the gratitude for our friendship!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend that is hopefully shared with the ones you love!
